Via a Hoefler tweet, a link to the British Library site, showing off a new acquisition, a book from the 7th C. That is so unbelievably old that you have to see it. Buried with a saint in 698, found again 4 centuries layer in 1104.

A lot of applications, both on web and offline are labeled “Beta” these days. It means nothing more than “look, we’re doing something interesting”. Often the code works well and the developers are ironing out small details.
However, once in a while one obtains an application that carries the “Beta” flag and it is actually still very much under construction. Features don’t work, or work differently. Some features are completely broken. When you see this: take care. Watch out. Do not move all your production files into the new tool. Do not try to do your work with the app. Try it, sample it, make notes and inform the developers. But using it in a production context is begging for trouble. It will be your own trouble. You were warned.

After filing down the corners, I used fine grained sandpaper to smooth out the edges.
Except, well, you know, this book was published in 1973. The authors later produced the Barbapapa series.
